Sermons on Several Subjects

A Symbol of Brutality

This is only one of two books that survive from the Niagara Library, burned by American forces in December 1813. Sermons on Several Subjects, borrowed by the Reverend Robert Addison and later placed in the library that bears his name, was not returned until 2005. This made it both a symbol of the brutality of war, and probably the oldest overdue library book in Canadian history.
