Major Clough decided to personally reconnoiter the forward area to most effectively site his medium machine guns, on several occasions coming under enemy attack. When the attack commenced, the brigade was given the best possible support from the machine gun platoons. Mr. Clough’s complete disregard of enemy fire was an inspiration to his whole company and by his careful direction and bold initiative, severe casualties were inflicted upon the enemy.
