- Inscription J.A MILLER PHOTO; THE SAILING OF THE FIRST CONTIGENT This great photograph (one of the most remarkable ever published) was taken at the special invitation of General the Honorable Sir Sam Hughes. K.C.B. Thirty-one transports and eleven war vessels made up this Armada, the greatest to sail the bosom of the broad Atlantic. They went out as follows: - H.M.S Charybdis (flagship) leading, the Megantic, Ivernia, Montezuma, Montreal, Sicilian, Lapland, Royal Edward, Saxonia, Andania, Etc. The Laurentic, Royal George and two cruisers brought up the rear. The transports and their convoys reached Plymouth Eng., (the port from which the Pilgrim Fathers set out for American in 1620) on October 15th, 1914.
