An island divided

Picture an island nestled in the Mediterranean Sea. Stirs up dreamy holiday visions of sunshine, warm sand and calm blue waters, doesn’t it? Canadian soldiers serving with UN peacekeeping forces in Cyprus unfortunately met with a harsher reality. The Canadian War Museum invites you to share in the memories of Canadian peacekeepers who served on the island. Join them in their long journey towards a lasting peace.

Model planes make modern gains

Many of you may remember playing with wind-up model airplanes as kids: you would twist the elastic-driven propeller, launch the plane…and then watch it nose-dive to the ground after a pitifully short flight. Then came remote-controlled model planes, which were far more airworthy…and loud! Today’s high-tech unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) hailing from Medicine Hat are a far cry from the toy airplanes of our youth…and the Canadian War Museum is on target with its plans to put one on display in the coming months.

Back to school, back in time

The technique is simple yet fun: spread a dab of white glue on your fingertip, let dry, gently peel off the gummy film. And presto – your fingerprint, in all its gooey glory! A waste of time? Definitely. But nonetheless an entertaining escape from the monotony of the classroom…perhaps you remember doing something similar yourself. It’s quite amazing how simple school supplies can transport you back in time and trigger a flood of fond memories. Each of these reminiscences carries with it a little of our personal and collective history…and the Canadian Museum of Civilization would like to help you relive it.
