Canteen
This khaki wool felt-covered 1908 pattern canteen has a cotton web carrier and is attached to a shoulder brace. Soldiers often stood in water, but it was frequently polluted with human remains or mustard gas and could not be consumed. Although fresh water was regularly carried to the front lines, soldiers relied on personal water bottles during long marches or on missions that took them away from reliable water sources.
