Australian artist

Bowen, Stella (1893-1947)

Bowen left Australia in 1914 and never returned. She studied at the Westminster School of Art in London where she was influenced by Walter Sickert. The second woman appointed as an official war artist in February 1944, she was engaged to record the Australian crews of Bomber Command and the repatriation of Australian prisoners of war at Eastbourne.
